The Well Women Centre regrets that we cannot offer immediate counselling appointments due to the heavy demand on our services. If you feel that counselling is needed quickly, the following may be helpful:
Counselling Services for Any Issue:
- GP’s often have counsellors at the surgery and can refer patients to other counselling services, including Mind Matters.
- Dove House Christian Counselling based at Belle Isle Christian Centre offers counselling on any issue. Phone 240488.

- The Specialist Psychotherapy Team at Horbury Health Centre are an NHS service which provides long and short term psychotherapy, art therapy, family therapy and couples therapy. Your GP can refer you.
- MIND in Dewsbury offer counselling to those suffering from any mental health problem. Phone 01924 466486. http://www.mind.org.uk
- The Adult Psychological Therapies Services is an NHS service offering a range of therapies and groups. Your GP can refer you.
- Wakefield Young People’s Service offers counselling for young people between ages of 13-21 in venues throughout the district. Phone 01924 302554/302552.
- Leeds Counselling 0113 245 0303 offers counselling on any issue. Charges from £14.00. (You do not have to live in Leeds to attend.)
- The Market Place in Leeds offers counselling to young people aged 13 – 25, including those living in Wakefield. Phone 0113 246 1659.
- Samaritans offer a 24 hour listening service. Phone 01924377011 www.samaritans.org
Issue Based Services:
- Turning Point Alcohol & Drug Service has a service that offers counselling to anyone whose life is affected by alcohol. Phone 01924 211113/01924 377704.
- Batley Self Help Depression Group offers one-to-one counselling for a very small fee. The service is situated in central Batley. Please call 01924 446413/326390 or email enquiries@batleyselfhelp.org.uk
- Wakefield Self-help Depression Group meets Tuesdays 1-3pm at Horbury Health Centre. For further infrmation, please ring in confidence, Karen 01924 267127 or Elaine 01924 862066
- Gasped offers counselling, support groups and a 24 hour telephone helpline for those who are affected by the drug use of a family member. Phone 01924 787501. Helpline number 0845 146 0002
- Star offers counselling following rape or sexual assault on 01924 298954.
- Safe at Home offer counselling and support for anyone who is experiencing or has experienced domestic abuse. The service is district wide. Phone 0800 915 1561

- Victim support offers one to one support following a crime. Phone 01924 369107
- Cruse in Pontefract offer bereavement counselling. Phone 01977 708335.
- Pinderfields Voluntary Services Bereavement Group offer some 1:1 counselling (up to 3 sessions). They also have a Bereavement Support Group. Phone 01924 212392.
- Wakefield Hospice offers bereavement counselling for adults and children who have been known to the Hospice. Phone 01924 213900.
- Star Bereavement Projects offer 1:1 counselling and group work to children who have faced loss in the Wakefield district. Phone 01924 213900.
- Palliative Care Team Bereavement Support offer 1:1 bereavement support to those who have been known to the Specialist Palliative Care Team. They also have a bereavement support group for widows and widowers which meets twice monthly. Phone 01924 212290
Private counsellors are usually able to see clients straightaway. Fees are in the region of £30 - 35. If you are working, it is worth considering paying to see a counsellor. It is a way of valuing yourself.

A great website for those suffering from anxiety and depression, it offers an online self-help course, consisting of modules introducing life skills based on cognitive behavioural therapy. Users are required to register- either as public or practitioner, and then an "association" can be created between client and support worker, which allows them to interact through the website.There are no fees and beyond registration/session1, users can pick and choose, doing as much or as little as they want.
