Evolve at the Well Women
Centre
Practical and emotional support for women who have offended or are at risk of offending
Information for women:
Can Evolve help you?
- Are you worried about getting into trouble with the police?
- Are you due in court and would like some support?
- Are you afraid of a custodial sentence?
- Are you in custody and due to be released in to the Wakefield District?
- Are you worried about how you will manage when you are released?
If you can answer ‘yes’ to any of these questions Evolve may be for you
What can Evolve do for you?
- A safe, women only place to talk to friendly people
- Someone to listen
- You can come here or we can come and meet you
- Someone to come to Court or other appointments with you
- Getting help with debts, drug and alcohol problems, domestic abuse, housing, benefits, family services, employment and training
- Helping you to make the right decisions for you and your family
- Fortnightly ‘open house’ in Wakefield town centre, Wednesdays 11 till 1pm. Come for a coffee and a chat.
Activities for fun – arts and crafts, massage, clothes, book club, cooking.
Advice sessions – benefits, childcare, dentists, healthcare, drug and alcohol advice

Information for professionals
Calderdale and Kirklees Evolve has been successfully developing this project for 3 years and has made a significant impact on the lives of vulnerable women who may be at risk of offending
- A recent NACRO report noted that those women who received support from the Evolve service were less likely to reoffend. In fact, the rate of reoffending was reduced to less than 2% (well below the National average)
The Evolve Project Offers:
- Practical and emotional support around presenting issues
- Individual support packages, tailored to address a range of issues, thereby reducing the risk of further offending
- Attending and supporting women at the different stages of sentencing at the Magistrates and Crown Courts
- Providing information and input to the relevant agencies and their reports
Support we can offer in partnership with other specialists
- Substance misuse
- Domestic abuse
- Housing support/advice
- Advocacy and support for women living with mental health problems
- Debt and benefits assistance
- Family support
- Support in accessing local education and training opportunities
How to refer
The Referral Process
All referrals will be assessed according to the individual’s required level of support and they must reside in the Wakefield district.
- Discuss Evolve with the woman
- If she is interested call Evolve to give referral details
- Evolve staff will call the woman and arrange to meet for assessment
Referrals are welcome from all agencies.
Self referrals are also acceptable
